Discovered this Lorenz Rhode dude through Keegan DeWitt’s Wild Cub July 2009 mixtape, Not So Young Anymore, which also happens to be one of the premier submissions to this year’s Yewknee Summer Mix Series.

The high point of an extremely enjoyable mixtape, “Back” is all red pleather jacket and Pony hightops – a total throwback to 80s artists like Kool & the Gang and Chaka Khan – filtered through Discovery-era Daft Punk. And I’m freaking love it.

drawing inspiratiion from lenore skenazy’s recent book, free-range kids, roger ebert has just posted an entry entitled raising free-range kids to his online journal at the sun-times. i insist all of my fellow parents read it & watch the above video. ebert goes a little off-topic towards the end when he starts talking about the legalization of drugs, but the meat of the article is right on point.

animal collective/grouper screenprinted poster

had to post this b/c it was screenprinted by some local royal oakies that call themselves the silent giants. i just saw them profiled in the royal oak review last week, and then MBV music just posted this image of their most recent poster for the animal collective & grouper show that took place here this past monday. looks like they’ve been cranking out a lot of good work recently (iron & wine, andrew bird, flight of the conchords). and it should keep on coming b/c the royal oak music theatre seems to be drawing in a lot of great acts nowadays. i’ll have to keep an eye on these guys. i’m subscribing to their rss feed immediately. and be sure to check out their online store so you can view their posters and maybe put some money down on one or two.
